Stephanie Smiedt’s Drips marry digitally rendered organic forms with the traditional materials of oil painting. In these large scale collage-paintings, the artist has collaborated with the computer to render the trace of her brush as a kind of found-object, which is then incorporated as a layer in a collage on raw linen.

Pared back in palette and heavily influenced by graffiti, Smiedt’s work uses manipulation and collage to slow down and carefully preserve the speeding drip, resulting in a strange suspension of the artist’s trace.
